Description
VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide of the secretin and glucagon family. It acts on the VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, found notably in the gut, lungs, blood vessels and immune system. Lyophilized vial intended exclusively for laboratory research.

About
What is VIP?
Isolated from the gut in 1970 by Said and Mutt, it was first described for its vasodilating effect. It later emerged as a neurotransmitter of the central and peripheral nervous system.
What the research studies
Work concerns smooth muscle relaxation, the regulation of inflammation and lung function. Its pharmaceutical form, aviptadil, has been the subject of clinical trials, notably in pulmonary hypertension and respiratory distress. This vial remains a research reagent, not that medicine.
