Human growth hormone (HGH, or somatotropin) is a protein of 191 amino acids, produced naturally by the pituitary gland. The recombinant version is made by biotechnology and has the same sequence as the natural hormone.

IU (or UI in French) means international unit: a unit which measures the biological activity of a substance, used in particular for growth hormone.

What does “recombinant” mean?

The hormone is produced by biotechnology, from cells programmed to produce a protein identical to the human hormone.
